Pre-mRNA-splicing factor 38B (PRPF38B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1 that encodes an RNA-binding protein involved in the essential process of pre-mRNA splicing as part of the spliceosome complex, specifically the U4/U6.U5 tri-small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) particle. It is primarily localized in the cell nucleus and participates in the maturation of pre-mRNAs, thereby controlling gene expression at the RNA processing level. Changes in PRPF38B expression and subcellular localization have been observed in cancer, particularly breast cancer, where it may be a prognostic biomarker, but there is no evidence it directly serves as a therapeutic drug target at this time.
