Pregnancy-specific beta-1-glycoprotein 5 (PSG5) is a member of the pregnancy-specific glycoprotein family within the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) subfamily of the immunoglobulin superfamily[5][6]. It is primarily produced by syncytiotrophoblasts in the placenta and is secreted into the maternal bloodstream during pregnancy[5][6]. PSG5 is involved in modulating the maternal immune response to support fetal tolerance, promoting placental vascular development, and possibly playing roles in anti-inflammatory processes. While not considered a direct therapeutic target such as a receptor, transporter, or enzyme, aberrant PSG5 expression can be detected in some cancers, making it of interest as a biomarker. PSG5 itself is not known to be targeted by drugs, nor is it directly implicated as a molecular target for therapeutic intervention[5][6].
