Overview

Pregnancy-specific beta-1-glycoprotein 6 (PSG6) is a member of the pregnancy-specific glycoprotein gene family, itself a subfamily of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) family within the immunoglobulin superfamily[1][2][3][7]. PSG6 is expressed by placental trophoblasts and released into maternal circulation during pregnancy, where its presence is thought to play a role in the maintenance of normal pregnancy, maternal immune modulation, and cellular adhesion processes[2][3][4]. The protein contains an Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) tripeptide implicated in cell adhesion and recognition[2]. PSG6 and its family members are major serum components during pregnancy, but specific functional and mechanistic roles remain incompletely defined, and there is no evidence this molecule is used as a direct therapeutic target or that it binds drugs in current clinical practice[2][4][7]. Its main clinical associations are with gestational disease contexts and as a potential biomarker for pregnancy-related conditions[2][3].
