Overview

Pregnancy-specific beta-1-glycoprotein 7 (PSG7) is a member of the pregnancy-specific glycoprotein family, itself part of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) gene family within the immunoglobulin superfamily. PSG7 is predominantly expressed by placental trophoblasts and released into the maternal circulation during pregnancy; its primary proposed role is supporting the maintenance of a normal pregnancy, likely through immunomodulatory functions at the maternal-fetal interface. Clinical associations include gestational trophoblastic neoplasms and certain pregnancy complications, and PSG7, like other PSG proteins, may be relevant as a biomarker for placental function. However, PSG7 is not known to be a direct therapeutic target, nor is it a canonical receptor, enzyme, or transporter.
