The primary microRNA 17–92 transcript (pri-miR-17-92) is a long, non-coding RNA precursor for the miR-17-92 cluster, encoding six microRNAs. It plays roles in development, cell proliferation, and cancer. Transcription is regulated by c-MYC and E2Fs. Mature miRNAs derived from pri-miR-17-92 promote cell cycle progression, inhibit apoptosis, and regulate differentiation. Dysregulation, especially overexpression, is linked to oncogenesis.
miRNAs regulate gene expression by binding to the 3'UTR of target mRNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation.
