PRKAR2A-AS1 is an antisense long non-coding RNA transcript located at the PRKAR2A gene locus. While antisense lncRNAs are known to regulate expression of neighboring coding genes, no published studies specifically characterize the function, disease relevance, or therapeutic targeting of PRKAR2A-AS1. Available evidence and nomenclature confusion indicate that PRKAR2A-AS1 is distinct from PRKAG2-AS1, the latter being a lncRNA with established cancer associations. Current knowledge does not support PRKAR2A-AS1 as a bona fide therapeutic target, biomarker, or druggable entity. PRKAR2A is a well-characterized gene encoding a regulatory subunit of protein kinase A involved in cAMP signaling; PRKAR2A-AS1 is a non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to PRKAR2A but is not itself a protein-coding target or receptor. Most search hits reference PRKAG2-AS1, not PRKAR2A-AS1. These are different lncRNAs associated with different loci and functions. No direct disease or functional annotation exists for PRKAR2A-AS1 as of the current knowledge base and latest search results.
