Overview

PRKCQ antisense RNA 1 (PRKCQ-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA primarily expressed in the cytoplasm and implicated in cancer and immune regulation. In colorectal cancer, PRKCQ-AS1 facilitates tumor progression by acting as a competing endogenous RNA for miR‑1287‑5p, leading to upregulation of the oncogene YBX1 and enhanced proliferation and migration of cancer cells[1]. In papillary thyroid carcinoma and under fasting conditions, PRKCQ-AS1 regulates glycolysis and mitochondrial function through interaction with IGF2BPs and PRMT7, inhibiting tumor growth[2]. PRKCQ-AS1 also functions in immune response and inflammation—shown to promote apoptosis, inflammatory damage and oxidative stress in sepsis models, and to correlate with patient prognosis[3]. Its expression is used as a biomarker for disease progression in cancer and sepsis. While no clinical drugs target PRKCQ-AS1 yet, it represents a potential therapeutic target for RNA-based therapies in oncology and immunology[1][2][3][4][5].

Antisense or RNA interference drugs would act by suppressing PRKCQ-AS1 expression, thereby restoring tumor suppressor miR-1287-5p function, reducing YBX1 oncogene expression, or altering PRMT7-mediated metabolic signaling
