Pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion by engineered natural killer (NK) cells refers to the deliberate enhancement or modification of NK cells to increase their production and release of cytokines that promote inflammation. This is primarily done in the context of immunotherapy for cancer or infectious diseases, to improve immune responses against tumors or pathogens by amplifying their natural ability to secrete key pro-inflammatory mediators such as interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and various chemokines.
Engineered NK cells are designed to enhance the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IFN-γ, TNF-α) upon target engagement, leading to activation of other immune cells, direct cytotoxicity, and promotion of an anti-tumor or anti-pathogen response.
