Pro-inflammatory cytokine synthesis refers to the cellular process by which immune and certain non-immune cells produce and secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines—small, secreted proteins that act as key modulators of inflammation. These molecules are essential for initiating, amplifying, and sustaining inflammatory responses during infection, injury, or immune activation. Key cytokines include IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α, and IFNγ.
