Target intelligence / Profile preview
Pro-platelet basic protein pseudogene 1 is a non-protein-coding pseudogene found in the human genome. It shares sequence homology with the active PPBP gene, which encodes a CXC chemokine involved in neutrophil activation, but PPBPP1 itself does not produce a functional protein and is not considered a molecular target or biomarker[1][4][7][9][11]. Often erroneously conflated with active pro-platelet basic protein, the pseudogene has no established role in biological processes, diseases, or therapeutic interventions. Additional notes on confusion: - PPBPP1 is not PPBP (CXCL7). PPBP (CXCL7) is an active CXC chemokine with roles in inflammation, platelet biology, and disease. PPBPP1 is a pseudogene and not a functional molecule[1][2][4][7][8]. - TGB2 is sometimes used as a synonym for PPBPP1, but is not a standard alias for the functional PPBP protein[1][4][9][11].
