Probable ATP-dependent RNA helicase DDX59 (DDX59)

Target
DDX59
Molecular classification
Enzyme, RNA helicase, DEAD-box helicase family
01

Overview

Probable ATP-dependent RNA helicase DDX59 (DDX59) is an enzyme of the DEAD-box helicase family, characterized by a conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif. Like other DEAD-box helicases, DDX59 is predicted to use the energy of ATP hydrolysis to unwind RNA duplexes, thus regulating various aspects of RNA metabolism including RNA processing, splicing, transport, translation, and degradation[2][3][4][7]. DDX59 is found in the cytoplasm and nucleus and is associated with orofaciodigital syndrome V[7]. While specific small-molecule modulators or approved drugs targeting DDX59 are not documented, DEAD-box helicases as a family are considered putative therapeutic targets due to their roles in cancer and other diseases[1][4][6].
