Overview

Probable cation-transporting ATPase 13A5 (ATP13A5) is a member of the P5 subfamily of P-type ATPases, a large superfamily of cation and lipid pumps capable of transporting various ions across membranes using ATP hydrolysis[2]. ATP13A5 is implicated in cation (potentially metal ion) transmembrane transport[7], and has been detected in numerous tissues including the central nervous system, bone marrow, adrenal gland, and adipose tissue[3][4]. While there is evidence linking ATP13A5 to cellular proliferation and hypothesized, but not proven, involvement in blood-brain barrier vascular differentiation, its specific physiological and pathological roles remain incompletely characterized[5]. There are currently no approved drugs, established biomarkers, or major disease associations directly tied to ATP13A5 function.
