Probable G protein-coupled receptor 173 (GPR173) is a highly conserved member of the class A (rhodopsin-like) orphan G protein-coupled receptor family. It is primarily expressed in the brain and reproductive organs, where it serves as the putative receptor for the neuropeptide phoenixin. GPR173 is implicated in the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, including potentiation of luteinizing hormone secretion and the coordination of reproductive cycles. Additional proposed roles involve modulation of food intake, memory and learning, anxiety, inflammatory response, and cardiac protection, likely mediated through neuropeptide signaling. As of the latest research, GPR173 remains an orphan receptor without marketed therapeutic ligands but represents an emerging target for neuroendocrine and reproductive disorders.
