Probable lysine-specific demethylase 4F (KDM4F) is listed as a member of the KDM4 family of *JmjC*-domain containing histone demethylases, which generally catalyze the removal of methyl marks from histone lysine residues to regulate chromatin structure and gene expression[5]. However, KDM4F is considered a pseudogene in most references and is not reported to encode a functional protein in humans[5]. KDM4F, along with KDM4E, is found in a gene cluster on chromosome 11q21; while KDM4E expression has recently been observed and is possibly functional, KDM4F is widely annotated as a pseudogene without evidence of expression, protein product, or biological function[5]. Therefore, it is not currently regarded as a bona fide therapeutic target, enzyme, or functional protein, and no evidence links it to drug targeting, biological processes, or disease pathways. Issues: - This entry is frequently misattributed as a functional target; the gene is a probable or annotated pseudogene in humans and does not encode a functional enzyme[5]. - No peer-reviewed studies describe a role for KDM4F protein in biological function, disease, or therapy; as such, it should not be confused with other functional KDM4 family members (KDM4A-E)[5]. Summary: KDM4F is best classified as a probable pseudogene, with no experimentally confirmed function, expression, or implication as a therapeutic target. Most biological roles attributed to the KDM4 family (histone demethylation, chromatin regulation, cancer roles) pertain to KDM4A, KDM4B, KDM4C, and sometimes KDM4E, not KDM4F[3][5].
