Overview

Probable rRNA-processing protein EBP2 (EBNA1BP2) is a conserved nucleolar protein required for the processing of 27S pre-rRNA and the biogenesis of the ribosomal large subunit, enabling RNA binding activity[4][5]. It localizes predominantly to the nucleolus and functions as a scaffold protein in rRNA processing and ribosome assembly[2][3]. EBNA1BP2 also interacts directly with Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA1), mediating the tethering and faithful partitioning of EBV episomes during cell division, a function essential for latent EBV genome maintenance in host cells[1][2]. While it plays dual roles in normal ribosome biogenesis and viral episome segregation, EBNA1BP2 is not a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme and currently has no known drug interactions or biomarker/safety concern associations[2][4][5].
