TRMT9B
Molecular classification
Enzyme, tRNA methyltransferase, Class I SAM-dependent methyltransferase

Overview

Probable tRNA methyltransferase 9B (TRMT9B) is an enzyme and member of the tRNA methyltransferase family, closely related to yeast tRNA methyltransferase 9 (Trm9). TRMT9B retains the sequence and structural elements of a methyltransferase but is not required for global tRNA wobble uridine methylation, unlike its paralog ALKBH8[1][3]. TRMT9B is especially enriched in the nervous system and functions postsynaptically to regulate synaptic growth and promote neurotransmitter release, contributing to nervous system development[3][1][2]. In animal models, loss of TRMT9B leads to defects in synaptogenesis that are dependent on its methyltransferase activity. TRMT9B has also been studied for its potential tumor suppressor properties, but its physiological substrate and therapeutic targeting remain unclear[1][2].
