Overview

Profilin 1 pseudogene 3 (PFN1P3) is one of several pseudogenes related to the functional profilin-1 (PFN1) gene in humans[7]. PFN1P3 retains sequence homology to PFN1 but does not produce a functional protein and is not known to have any direct biological activity, therapeutic relevance, or disease association. The functional PFN1 protein is a small, actin-binding protein essential for actin polymerization and involved in cellular processes such as cytoskeletal regulation, cell motility, and is implicated in diseases including neurodegeneration and cancer[1][2][4], but PFN1P3 does not share these attributes. Key points and context: - PFN1 (not PFN1P3) is a well-characterized cytoskeletal regulator and disease-associated protein[1][2][4][5]. - PFN1P3 is a pseudogene, not a therapeutic target and does not encode a protein or receptor[7]. - Pseudogenes are common in the genome and often arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events but generally lack biological function. - Therapeutic targeting and mechanistic or biomarker information are not applicable to pseudogenes unless new research shows otherwise; no such evidence exists for PFN1P3[7]. If you intended to reference the functional actin polymerization regulator (profilin-1, PFN1) instead of the pseudogene, that target would be classified as an actin-binding protein involved in multiple cellular and disease processes[1][2][4][5], but PFN1P3 is not itself a target.
