Overview

Progestagen associated endometrial protein pseudogene 1 (PAEPP1) is a human pseudogene, meaning it resembles a protein-coding gene but does not produce a functional protein. It is located near the active progestagen-associated endometrial protein (PAEP) gene on human chromosome 9, which encodes glycodelin—a member of the lipocalin family involved in reproductive function. PAEPP1 represents the evolutionary remnant of the beta-lactoglobulin gene found in other species; it is not expressed in humans and, as a pseudogene, has no established biological function or role in human disease[2]. It is not recognized as a therapeutic target, and there is no evidence of endogenous expression, disease association, or drug interaction for this locus. Presence of this pseudogene reflects evolutionary loss of milk beta-lactoglobulin function in humans and certain other mammals[2].
