Progestin and adipoQ receptor family member 9 (PAQR9) is a putative G protein-coupled receptor, localized to the plasma membrane, and believed to mediate rapid signal transduction for progestins and neurosteroids such as progesterone, DHEA, allopregnanolone, pregnenolone, and pregnanolone. It is predicted to function via a G(s)-mediated pathway, participating in steroid hormone signaling especially within neural tissues. PAQR9 is implicated in endocrine, metabolic, and reproductive system functions and is associated with disease processes such as microvascular complications of diabetes and prostate carcinoma in situ. No drugs currently target PAQR9 directly, and its functional role is under ongoing investigation.
Ligand binding (progesterone and neurosteroids) activates G protein–mediated intracellular signaling (specifically G(s) pathway). Likely non-genomic steroid hormone signaling and regulation of neuronal processes.
