Programmed death ligand 2 (PD-L2)

Target
PD-L2
Molecular classification
B7 protein family, Type I transmembrane protein, Immunoglobulin superfamily
01

Overview

Programmed death ligand 2 (PD-L2) is an immune checkpoint ligand that interacts with programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) to negatively regulate T cell activation and function. It is primarily expressed on antigen-presenting cells and some T cell subsets. PD-L2's interaction with PD-1 suppresses T cell proliferation, cytokine production, and cytolytic activity, contributing to immune tolerance and preventing autoimmunity. In cancer, PD-L2 expression on tumor cells or immune cells within the tumor microenvironment can suppress anti-tumor immunity, leading to tumor evasion. Blocking the PD-L2/PD-1 interaction with antibodies can enhance anti-tumor immune responses.

Mechanism of action

Inhibits T cell activation by binding to PD-1, delivers inhibitory signals to T cells. Anti-PD-L2 antibodies block this interaction, promoting T cell activation.
