Prohibitin pseudogene 15 (PHB1P15, also known as PHBP15) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome[3]. Pseudogenes are nonfunctional DNA segments that have sequence similarity to functional parental genes, but have lost their protein-coding potential due to mutations such as frameshifts or premature stop codons[4]. PHB1P15 shares similarity with the prohibitin (PHB1) gene but does not encode a functional prohibitin protein[3]. There is no current evidence indicating that PHB1P15 has an active regulatory function, involvement in disease, or relevance as a therapeutic or diagnostic target.
