Overview

Prohibitin pseudogene 6 (PHB1P6) is a processed human pseudogene, mapped to chromosome 7 (chr7:75203926-75204711, hg38). It is classified as a pseudogene because it originated from the duplication or retrotransposition of the PHB1 (prohibitin) gene and has lost the ability to code a functional protein. Pseudogenes of this class, in general, can sometimes regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally by acting as miRNA decoys or through involvement in generation of siRNAs, but there is currently no evidence directly linking PHB1P6 to such regulatory function, disease mechanisms, or therapeutic relevance. No drugs, biomarkers, or safety issues are associated with this pseudogene, and it is not considered a molecular target or functional receptor, enzyme, or transporter.

Mechanism of action

03

Biological functions

No direct biological function; does not encode protein; potential regulatory role as inferred for other pseudogenes, e.g., acting as non-coding RNA, miRNA decoy, or ceRNA, but no specific function for PHB1P6 is described
04

Disease associations

No direct disease associations or roles identified for PHB1P6 itself. Other pseudogenes are sometimes involved in regulation of parental gene expression and may be implicated in diseases as regulatory RNAs, but no such evidence for PHB1P6 is cited in current sources
