Proinflammatory Cell Activity

Proinflammatory cell activity refers to the collective actions of immune cells that promote inflammation, primarily through the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines. These cytokines are small signaling proteins produced by various immune cells in response to pathogens or tissue damage. The main function of these molecules is to upregulate inflammatory reactions as part of the innate and adaptive immune responses. Excessive or chronic proinflammatory cell activity can contribute to pathological conditions such as autoimmune diseases, atherosclerosis, cancer progression, depression, neurological disorders—and in severe cases—cytokine storm syndromes leading to shock or death if unchecked.
