PROK2 divergent transcript (PROK2-DT, also known as TCONS_00006091 or LOC105377156) is classified as a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is transcribed divergently, meaning it originates in the opposite direction from a nearby protein-coding gene—specifically, from the region surrounding the PROK2 gene. Divergent transcripts defined by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC) are typically lncRNAs located within 300–500 nucleotides of a protein-coding gene[3][4]. There is no evidence that PROK2-DT encodes a protein or serves as a conventional molecular target for therapeutics such as receptors, enzymes, or ion channels. The function of PROK2-DT is currently unknown; for many divergent lncRNAs, roles are postulated in regulating the expression of neighboring protein-coding genes, but specific biological functions for this gene have not been established in the literature[1][3][4]. There are no associated drugs, mechanisms of action, recognized biomarkers, or known disease roles at this time.
