Overview

Prokineticin receptor 1 is a G protein-coupled receptor for prokineticins, small protein ligands involved in angiogenesis, inflammation, and reproductive biology. PROKR1 is primarily coupled to Gq proteins, leading to mobilization of calcium and activation of MAPK signaling. It is expressed in multiple tissues including the circulatory system, reproductive organs, endocrine and gastrointestinal systems. PROKR1 signaling regulates angiogenesis, trophoblast cell proliferation and adhesion, and immune gene expression, and it has roles in early pregnancy, placentation, and various disease processes.
