Overview

"Proliferative pathways" is not the name of a specific molecule, receptor, or canonical therapeutic target. Instead, it refers to a broad set of intracellular signaling cascades and molecular networks that regulate cell proliferation—the process by which cells grow and divide to produce new cells[1][2][3][4]. These pathways include multiple families of molecules such as growth factors (e.g., EGF, FGF), their receptors (e.g., EGFR, FGFR), downstream kinases (e.g., MAPK/ERK pathway, PI3K/AKT pathway), cyclins and cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), transcription factors like Myc and Jun, as well as tumor suppressors such as p53 and Rb[1][2][3][5]. Proliferative pathways are essential for normal development, tissue repair, and homeostasis but are also frequently dysregulated in diseases like cancer[4]. Because "proliferative pathways" encompasses many different molecular targets rather than one discrete entity—and is not itself a protein or receptor—it should not be considered a canonical drug target. Instead, individual components within these pathways may serve as therapeutic targets in oncology or regenerative medicine[3].
