Proline and serine rich coiled-coil protein 1 (PSRC1) is a microtubule-associated protein regulated by the tumor suppressor p53 that is essential for normal mitotic progression in humans. It functions by recruiting and regulating microtubule depolymerases at the mitotic spindle and spindle poles, thereby promoting microtubule turnover and proper chromosome alignment and segregation during cell division. Alternative splicing of the PSRC1 gene gives rise to multiple isoforms, and research suggests the protein participates in p53-mediated growth suppression. PSRC1 is not a typical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter but plays a significant role in cell cycle regulation, with potential implications in cancer and cardiovascular disease risk.
