Overview

Proline-rich nuclear receptor coactivator 2 (PNRC2) is a small (~16 kDa) member of the PNRC coactivator family and encodes a 139-amino-acid protein. PNRC2 interacts directly with nuclear receptors through a proline-rich sequence and an SH3 domain-binding motif, functioning as a coactivator for several orphan and classical nuclear receptors in a ligand-dependent or independent fashion. It participates in the control of mRNA stability and decay (notably nonsense-mediated decay), mediating interactions between the decapping complex and nuclear receptor machinery, and may play a role in the regulation of energy balance and hormone biosynthesis in breast tissue. Unlike other coactivators, PNRC2 is distinct in its sequence motifs and molecular interactions.
