Overview

Proline-rich protein 29 (PRR29) is a human protein encoded by the PRR29 gene located on chromosome 17q23.3. It is characterized by a stretch of five proline amino acids and contains a DUF4587 domain. Although the exact function remains unclear, it is suggested to be involved in communication between the cell nucleus and mitochondria, potentially affecting cellular signaling and energy production. Additionally, PRR29 may act as a structural component necessary for assembly or maintenance of the ciliary axoneme; its proline-rich composition could facilitate critical protein-protein interactions. PRR29 is expressed in multiple tissues, notably in the circulatory and immune systems, but there is no experimental evidence that it serves as an enzyme, transporter, receptor, or other classical therapeutic target. Currently, no drugs, biomarkers, or clinical disease associations are established for PRR29[1][3][4][5][6][9].
