Proline-rich protein HaeIII subfamily 2 (PRH2)

Target
PRH2
Molecular classification
Salivary glycoprotein, Proline-rich protein family
01

Overview

Proline-rich protein HaeIII subfamily 2 (PRH2) is a member of the heterogeneous family of proline-rich salivary glycoproteins, secreted from salivary glands[1][5]. It plays a role in the oral cavity by inhibiting calcium phosphate crystal growth, thereby contributing to the maintenance of oral mineral balance and potentially preventing pathological calcifications such as dental calculus[5]. PRH2 is acidic and is structurally characterized by multiple repeats rich in proline. The gene is located on chromosome 12 and has several known splice variants[3][4]. This molecule is not characterized as a therapeutic target and has no direct links to major disease pathways or drug interactions.
