Prolyl Oligopeptidase

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine protease, Serine endopeptidase
01

Overview

Prolyl oligopeptidase (POP), also known as prolyl endopeptidase, is a serine endopeptidase that specifically cleaves peptide bonds at the carboxyl side of internal proline residues in oligopeptides shorter than about 30 amino acids. It is involved in neuropeptide metabolism and has been implicated in various neurological and psychiatric disorders. It is encoded by the PREP gene.
