Overview

Proprietary tumor antigen C+ is a specific, undisclosed tumor-associated antigen targeted by BioNTech's FixVac platform, specifically within the BNT116 vaccine candidate for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). As part of a multi-antigen mRNA vaccine, it is designed to stimulate the patient's immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells expressing this particular marker. The antigen is selected based on its prevalent expression in tumor tissues while remaining largely absent in healthy cells, thereby minimizing off-target effects. In clinical applications, BNT116 delivers the genetic code for Antigen C+ alongside other tumor antigens to induce a robust and poly-epitopic T-cell response. This approach aims to overcome tumor heterogeneity and prevent immune escape by targeting multiple pathways simultaneously. Current development is focused on its efficacy in combination with checkpoint inhibitors to enhance overall survival in advanced cancer patients.
