Prospero homeobox protein 1 (PROX1)

Prospero homeobox protein 1 (PROX1) is a critical transcription factor involved in the development of multiple tissues, particularly in specifying lymphatic endothelial cell fate from venous endothelial progenitors during embryogenesis. It acts as a master regulator in lymphangiogenesis, neurogenesis (especially in the hippocampus and CNS), and controls proliferation, differentiation, and cell fate of neuronal and non-neuronal cell types. PROX1 also modulates key metabolic pathways by interaction with nuclear receptors such as RORα, RORγ, and ERRα, and can act as a tumor suppressor or promoter depending on tissue context.
