Target intelligence / Profile preview

Prostaglandin D2 (PGD2)

Target
PGD2
Molecular classification
Lipid, Prostanoid, Prostaglandin
01

Overview

Prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) is a bioactive lipid compound belonging to the prostaglandin family, derived from arachidonic acid. It is primarily produced by mast cells and plays significant roles in inflammation, allergic responses, neuromodulation, and sleep regulation. PGD2 exerts its effects mainly through two G protein-coupled receptors, PTGDR (DP1) and CRTH2 (DP2).

02

Mechanism of action

Inhibition of cyclooxygenases (COX-1, COX-2) leading to decreased PGD2 synthesis.
