Target intelligence / Profile preview
The prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) synthesis pathway is a biochemical cascade responsible for the production of PGD2, a bioactive lipid mediator involved in diverse physiological and pathological processes such as inflammation, immune response, sleep regulation, and male sexual development. PGD2 is primarily produced by mast cells but is also synthesized in the central nervous system and other tissues. The pathway begins with arachidonic acid, which is converted to PGD2 via cyclooxygenases and prostaglandin D synthases.
