The prostaglandin E receptor refers to a family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that mediate the effects of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a key lipid mediator involved in numerous physiological and pathological processes. There are four main subtypes of this receptor, known as EP1, EP2, EP3, and EP4. Each subtype is encoded by a distinct gene (PTGER1–4) and exhibits unique tissue distribution, signaling mechanisms, and biological functions.
