Overview

Prostaglandin E receptor 1 (EP1) is a G protein-coupled receptor that primarily binds prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Upon activation by PGE2, it stimulates the phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system, leading to increased intracellular calcium levels and subsequent cellular responses. It plays critical roles in pain perception, blood pressure regulation, renal function, and smooth muscle contraction. Targeting the EP1 receptor has been explored for managing conditions such as pain, hypertension, preterm labor, and certain cancers.
