Prostaglandin E receptor 2 (EP2) is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a bioactive lipid involved in numerous physiological and pathological processes. Upon activation by PGE2, EP2 couples to Gs proteins, leading to increased intracellular cAMP and activation of protein kinase A (PKA). It is widely expressed and mediates diverse biological effects, including modulation of inflammation, regulation of immune cell function, vasodilation, and smooth muscle relaxation. EP2 has been implicated as an important mediator or therapeutic target for cancer, cardiovascular disease, fibrosis, and wound healing.
