The prostaglandin E2 receptor (PGE2 receptor) refers to a family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that bind and are activated by prostaglandin E2, a key lipid mediator involved in numerous physiological and pathological processes. There are four main subtypes of PGE2 receptors, known as EP1, EP2, EP3, and EP4. Each subtype is encoded by a distinct gene and exhibits unique tissue distribution, signaling mechanisms, and biological functions.
