Target intelligence / Profile preview
Prostaglandin E2 receptor 4 (EP4) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that binds prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Upon activation, EP4 primarily couples with Gs proteins to increase intracellular cAMP levels, but can also couple with Gi proteins to activate PI3K/Akt signaling pathways. It regulates diverse cellular responses including smooth muscle relaxation and immune modulation. EP4 is implicated in inflammation, tumorigenesis, and other physiological processes, making it a therapeutic target for chronic inflammatory diseases and cancer.
