Overview

Prostaglandin E2 receptor EP2 (EP2) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that binds prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). It is encoded by the PTGER2 gene and is widely distributed throughout the body, mediating diverse biological effects through cAMP signaling and β-arrestin pathways. EP2 is involved in inflammation, cancer, and other pathological processes and is considered a therapeutic target for drug discovery.

Mechanism of action

Activation by PGE2 stimulates adenylate cyclase, increasing cAMP levels and activating PKA or Epac pathways. Can also signal through β-arrestin pathways activating JNK or ERK kinases.
