The prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) synthesis pathway is a key biochemical cascade responsible for the production of PGE2, a lipid mediator involved in inflammation, immune regulation, and various physiological processes. PGE2 is synthesized from arachidonic acid (AA), which is released from membrane phospholipids upon cellular stimulation or damage. Key enzymes involved include phospholipase A2, cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2), and prostaglandin E synthases (mPGES-1, mPGES-2, cPGES). PGE2 exerts its effects through EP receptors (EP1-EP4).
