The Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2) promoter, commonly known as the COX-2 promoter, is a regulatory DNA sequence located upstream of the PTGS2 gene that governs the inducible expression of the cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme [1]. This regulatory region is a focal point for research into selective anti-inflammatory agents that might avoid the gastrointestinal and cardiovascular side effects associated with traditional COX inhibitors [8].
