Prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) is a bioactive lipid molecule belonging to the prostaglandin family. It plays critical roles in reproductive physiology, inflammation, and other processes by acting through its specific FP receptor. It induces luteolysis, stimulates uterine muscle contractions, and increases inflammation in myometrial cells. PGF2α analogues are used clinically to induce labor or abortion, and as active ingredients or templates for drugs treating glaucoma.
Agonist of the FP receptor, leading to activation of phospholipase C (PLC), production of inositol triphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG), mobilization of intracellular calcium, and activation of protein kinase C (PKC).
