Overview

Prostaglandin reductase 3 (PTGR3) is a protein coding enzyme that acts as a 15-oxo-prostaglandin 13-reductase, catalyzing reduction of 15-keto prostaglandins such as 15-keto-PGE1 and 15-keto-PGE2 (with highest efficiency toward 15-keto-PGE2-alpha). It is localized predominantly in mitochondria. PTGR3 is involved in the negative regulation of fat cell (adipocyte) differentiation, possibly through repression of PPARG transcriptional activity. Dysregulation of PTGR3 has been associated with developmental disorders and may play roles in metabolic processes.
