G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Rhodopsin-type GPCR
01

Overview

Prostanoid receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that mediate the actions of prostanoids, including prostaglandins and thromboxanes. These receptors play critical roles in numerous physiological and pathophysiological processes, including inflammation, pain perception, vascular tone regulation, immune modulation, and cell survival. There are at least eight main types/subtypes: DP(1/2), EP(1–4), FP, IP, and TP. Each receptor subtype has distinct ligand-binding properties and couples with specific G-proteins, leading to varied downstream effects.

Mechanism of action

Selective agonists/antagonists modulate receptor activity and downstream signaling pathways (e.g., cAMP levels, intracellular signaling cascades) associated with specific G-protein coupling.
