Overview

Prostate androgen-regulated mucin-like protein 1 (PARM1) is a highly glycosylated, mucin-like type I transmembrane protein predominantly localized to the Golgi apparatus, plasma membrane, and early endocytic compartments. PARM1 is expressed in several tissues, most notably in prostate, heart, kidney, and placenta, with its expression being upregulated by androgens in androgen-dependent prostate cancer cells. Experimental evidence demonstrates a role for PARM1 in promoting prostate cell proliferation and resistance to apoptosis, possibly by modulating telomerase activity. Beyond prostate biology, PARM1 is implicated in urogenital development, and decreased levels have prognostic significance in colorectal cancer, correlating with tumor aggressiveness and patient survival. No directly interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, or therapy-related safety concerns are currently documented for this target.
