Overview

Prostate androgen-regulated transcript 1 (PART1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) predominantly expressed in the prostate and several other tissues, initially identified due to its upregulation by androgens in prostate cancer cells[1][3]. PART1 does not encode a protein product and exists in multiple transcript forms. It plays context-dependent roles in cancer and other diseases: acting as an oncogene in some cancers (e.g., promoting proliferation, invasion, and resistance to therapy) and as a tumor suppressor in others[1][5]. PART1 mechanistically regulates cancer cell behavior by interacting with various microRNAs (such as miR-4516 and miR-937-5p) and influencing the expression of different genes relevant to tumorigenesis. Its expression patterns and functional impacts render it a potential biomarker for cancer prognosis, though it is not currently a receptor, enzyme, or direct therapeutic target[1][3][5].

Mechanism of action

Not a classical target for drug action; PART1 modulates cancer-associated pathways via interaction with microRNAs and gene regulation

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expressionModulation of cell proliferationModulation of apoptosisModulation of migration and invasion
04

Disease associations

Cancer (including prostate cancer, osteosarcoma, bladder cancer, breast cancer)Other (potentially non-malignant disorders, context-dependent)
05

Safety considerations

Not a direct therapeutic target; safety considerations pertain to gene modulation strategies, not PART1 itself
06

Interacting drugs

No specific drugs directly target PART1; its expression may affect sensitivity to some chemotherapeutics like cisplatin
07

Biomarkers

Prognostic biomarker in prostate cancer and other cancers (elevated PART1 associated with progression or poor prognosis)
