Overview

Prostate cancer associated transcript 14 (PCAT14) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that does not code for a protein but is expressed in a tissue-specific manner in the prostate[2][3]. PCAT14 has been identified through genome-wide transcriptomic analysis as being significantly deregulated in prostate cancer, especially in aggressive and high-grade cases. Its expression is elevated in primary prostate tumors compared to adjacent normal tissue, and reduced in metastatic prostate tumors compared to primary ones[1]. PCAT14 expression levels are associated with different clinical endpoints in prostate cancer, including distant metastasis-free survival, recurrence-free survival, disease-specific survival, and overall survival[1]. As a result, PCAT14 is considered a promising prognostic biomarker for prostate cancer, aiding disease stratification and potentially improving patient management. However, PCAT14 is not a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter; rather, it functions as a regulatory RNA molecule[1][3][4]. There are no known drugs that directly target PCAT14, and its main clinical value lies in its utility as a biomarker rather than as a therapeutic target.
