Overview
Prostate glandular epithelial cells are the secretory cells lining the acini and ducts of the prostate gland. They produce and secrete components of prostatic fluid, a major constituent of semen. They are organized into luminal (columnar) and basal (cuboidal) layers. Luminal cells secrete PSA and other components essential for sperm motility and fertility and are androgen receptor-positive. Basal cells are progenitor/stem cells. These cells play roles in BPH and are potential origin sites for carcinoma.
